Meet Trooper, the brave little puppy who was badly injured in a dragging accident, rescued and brought back to health by the Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force, on November 23 at Left Bank Books. Trooper is featured in his own children's book,Trooper's Triumphs (The Brave Puppy Who Wouldn't Give Up), which will be for sale at the event.
You may have heard about Trooper: Last November he was rescued by the Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force after being dragged for more than a mile behind a pickup truck. Severely injured and near death, he recovered with the expert help of HSMO rescuers, veterinarians, and staff.
Trooper's story has resonated worldwide with major media coverage from all corners of the globe, nearly 17,000 Team Trooper Facebook fans, and hundreds of thousands of YouTube views. He receives love, support, and care packages from soldiers, schoolchildren, and animal lovers everywhere. Trooper is symbolic of the countless animals that fall victim to cruelty and neglect. He says, "there's no excuse for animal abuse!"
Now Trooper has his own book! It is a children's picture book that lightly touches on the accident and then focuses on the valuable lessons Trooper learned as he miraculously recovered. The story, told from Trooper's perspective, is a conversation starter about the importance of compassion and respect towards animals.
A Trooper Plush Pet also is available. Proceeds from the book and other Trooper merchandise are donated to help investigate, heal, and prevent animal abuse - and support one of the largest animal rescue teams in the United States, the Humane Society of Missouri's Animal Cruelty Task Force and Disaster Response Team.
3 p.m. at Left Bank Books - the downtown location at 321 N. 10th St. The event is free and open to the public. Books and plush toys, which help support Trooper and other animals that are victims of cruelty and neglect, will be available for purchase.
