Enjoy a Little Mayhem While Helping Kids in Need at Lift for Life Gym

Life throws us many obstacles. Sometimes you just have to flip tires, push dumpsters and crawl through barricades to get through the mayhem. At least that’s the thinking behind Lift for Life Gym’s first annual City Mayhem Obstacle Course Challenge.

During this four-mile run, participants will tackle gut-busting obstacles as they run from Soulard to the Arch and back. Be prepared to conquer the Push Up Challenge, Cross Train Pain Station and Riverfront Anchor Chain Carry as you wind through the concrete jungle.

Kids ages 5 -to-12 can get into the fun with the pint-sized Mini Mayhem Obstacle course. After the race, celebrate your victory with refreshments and live music at the Brewery Beer Garden.

“We’re tremendously excited to introduce this new fitness event that is unlike any other in St. Louis,” said Joseph Miller, Assistant Executive Director of Lift For Life Gym. "We’ve put a new spin on the traditional charity run with fun and challenging obstacles that will be as enjoyable for the spectators as the participants.”

Proceeds from this event will help fund six future youth fitness and nutrition programs at Lift for Life Gym. Serving nearly 400 at-risk youth, Lift For Life Gym has been providing inner-city youth with positive alternatives to drug abuse, violence and gang involvement.

In this safe environment, kids ages 8-to-18 can participate in yoga, cardiovascular circuit training, weightlifting, dance, swimming, basketball and other fitness programs. The Gym also serves nutritious meals every weeknight and provides homework assistance, GED preparation and job placement help without charge.

The first annual City Mayhem Obstacle Course Challenge kicks off at 9 a.m. on April 21 at the corner of Lafayette and 3rd Street in Soulard. Until April 1, entry fees are $15 for kids 13 and under and $45 for teens and adults. Registration is now open online, so sign up today!
