Have you squinted in the sun and wondered what is really going on up there? Learn about the sun's surface, solar flares, sun spots and more during Solar Saturday at the Planetarium.
At Solar Saturday, you'll take a look at the sun, safely, through special scopes with the St. Louis Astronomical Society and staff from the Saint Louis Science Center, the Planetarium and other community partners. Weather permitting, you'll see a fantastic display of the sun's surface. Astronomy demonstrations will also take place in the Planetarium lobby.
Solar Saturday takes place at the James S. McDonnell Planetarium on January 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free.

See the Zoo's California sea lions perform acrobatic and athletic feats, including Olympic-style dives on a high-diving platform, flipper walks, frisbee tosses and plenty of surprises. While on stage with the sea lions, the Zoo's trainers explain sea lion behavior and positive-reinforcement training, in addition to the need for conserving the sea lion's ocean habitat.
Young visitors and their families are invited to the Energy Stage to enjoy interactive read-alouds of science-themed picture books. Story times are followed by a short demonstration or discussion connected to the book's main concepts.
