Kid City was a huge hit in its inaugural year, and now in its second year, the kid-centric event has expanded and moved to a larger location. And the number of activities available for your kids will keep them busy, active and safe all day.
On the safety side, the U.S. Cellular Safety Zone will be offering Child Identification Kits, and the interactice Kohl's Child Passenger Safety course will help them learn how to be safe on the road. For sports fans, there is the Get Out and Play Zone, featuring batting cages and activity stations. And kids can get their bounce on in the always-popular Kid City Bounce House.
Story fanatics and those who want a break from active play can visit the Story Time Corner, presented by Prairie Farms and North Star Frozen Treats. And the Big Top Showcase will feature magicians, Bob Kramer's Marionetes and youth performers. Kids can also meet Dora and Diego, and visit Charlie the Tourtoise in the Pet Center.
Parents aren't left out either. You'll find information about education, day care, camps, financial planning, healthcare, child safety and fitness. Plus, parents who donate blood at the Midas Blood Drive will receive a free oil change from Midas.
Kid City organizer Tammy Wildman said the event was born from her own needs as a St. Louis mom of two kids under 4. "As a new mom, I know how overwhelming parenting can be," she said. Every day seems to bring a new challenge for me. For example, how do I get my 3-year-old to eat something more nutritious than macaroni and cheese? And to be honest, I'm not really sure what 'nutritious' or 'healthy' really means in today's packaged food world. Are the Gerber veggie puff snacks really a healthy snack for my 1-year-old?"
Wildman designed the event so that kids can have a blast while their parents get answers to challenges and questions like these. Wildman added: "Kids City will address your unique needs by bringing parenting resources and services together in one place. Our mission is to educate parents in a fun atmosphere that entertains the whole family."
