St. Louis Family Events

Kids love to get messy when they play, and the Endangered Wolf Center is holding an event on Sunday, June 29 that will let kids do just that. Messy Play Day promises to be messy fun.

Nothing says 4^th of July quite like fireworks exploding high in the sky.

If you’re friends with me on Facebook, you already know that I spent most of the winter complaining about the many, many, MANY snow days when my kids were unexpectedly home from school.

As St. Louis schools let out for the year, local parents are on the lookout for fun and educational destinations to visit with the kids.

History isn’t always a favorite subject among kids. It’s no wonder – classroom textbooks tend to be pretty dry, and rarely make the people and places of the past come alive in a vivid way that intrigues today's kids.   
 

When it comes to taking your kids out for some family fun, what's better than free?

Our go-to free destination is the Saint Louis Zoo, but it's not on this list.  Don't get me wrong – we love the Zoo with a passion. We are members and go so much we're actually on a first name basis with the anteaters. But the Zoo's reputation proceeds it; everyone knows it's awesome.

So here are the first five of my top ten list of my favorite kid-friendly, free gems of the city. Minus the Zoo, but it's implied.

As a busy mom with a full-time job, I want to be able to access everything on my smartphone and other digital devices.

(It amazes me that I can't get grocery coupons for local chains delivered to my cell, like I can for Target, because the last thing you'll find me doing on a Sunday afternoon is clipping coupons. But I digress.)

So I was really excited this morning to find news of the new Saint Louis Science Center app in my inbox (on my phone, of course). The app was released today, and by 8 a.m. I had installed it on my iPhone via the app store (there's also a version for Andriod). Once I had explored the app, I learned It's easy to use, well organized, and that I can even follow the SLSC Twitter feed right from the app! (That last part may not appeal to everyone, but I think Mr. T. Rex's tweets are quite entertaining.)
