Celebrating The Snowy Day at the Missouri History Museum

The Snowy Day, written and illustrated by Ezra Jak Keats, was one of the first children's books in the 20th century to feature an African American child as the main character, and this year, the U.S. Postal Service released stamps that commemorate the beloved book.

Join the St. Louis Black Authors of Children's Literature Initiative to celebrate Peter, dressed in his cuddly red snow suit, and dive into a playful "snowy day" of your own at the Missouri History Museum. Families will enjoy listening to stories, making snowballs and snowflakes, playing in the snow, warming up with cocoa and cookies, writing and mailing a Snowy Day-stamped letter, and meeting local authors.

10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. througout the museum. Free.

Great Rivers Greenway has teamed up with the Saint Louis Zoo for the fifth annual free greenway scavenger hunt. Community members are invited to look for the many varieties of native bees that you can see buzzing around greenways and search for special hidden souvenirs you can take home! Starting August 1, BEE on the lookout for hand-painted bee rocks along all 140+ miles of greenways. Saint Louis Zoo ALIVE (Active Leaders in Volunteer Education) teen volunteers hand-painted hundreds of rocks like three different species of bees found along the greenways: American bumblebee, brown-belted bumblebee and two-spotted bumblebee, plus a few of the endangered rusty patched bumblebee.
