Join Dorothy in her iconic red shoes - on pointe this time - the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, the Scarecrow, Glinda, the Wicked Witch of the West, the Munchkins, poppies and the rest of Dorothy's friends when Dance St. Louis presents the Wizards of Oz. This beloved adventure, first seen more than 75 years ago on screen, has been adapted into a new classic in the form of a ballet.
Performed by Ballet Memphis, this journey down the yellow brick road takes Dorothy and her friends to the stage at the Touhill Performing Arts Center January 24 and 25.
Dorothy wears red point shoes and her classic blue gingham dress as she and her trio of friends take a journey to Emerald City, each in search of something different: a heart, a brain, courage and the chance to return home to her family in Kansas.
Along the way, they encounter Glinda (the Good Witch in her sparkling pink gown), are tested by the Wicked Witch of the West, and they meet the Munchkins, who will be played by 20 local dancers from COCA (the Center of Creative Arts) in University City.
This performance also comes with a special treat just for kids. After the show, kids can stroll across the stage and have their picture taken with Dorothy and other members of the cast.
So grab your ruby slippers and enjoy this beloved musical adventure live on stage!
