Kids and teens ages 8-15 can learn the basics of using a potter's wheel to make functional clay pieces and non-functional sculptures in Clay Class: Wheel Throwing at Laumeier Sculpture Park. They'll study the fundamental techniques of wedging, centering and raising cylindrical forms such as bowls, cups and vases.
The class also includes an introduction to glazing, and is designed for beginners and those slightly more experienced artists wishing to brush up on the basics. Wear old clothes, bring a towel and plan on getting messy!
This series of classes is held on Saturdays, January 30-February 27, 2021, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Laumeier Sculpture Park. Cost is $105 for five classes. Safety protocols can be found here.
